I think two of the most beautiful places I've ever lived were both in the mountains of North Carolina, outside of Asheville -- Penland School and Zendik Farm. Only, Zendik Farm's not there any more. The old Black Mountain College is near there too -- it's a Christian summer camp now, but still impressive.

I have  a friend in Summit Point, West Virginia, who writes poetry and restores antique furniture. I like Appalachia. It's not just poverty and squalor like the Ozarks. 

Today I live in Kyiv.
